The Vatican Museums are one of Rome's main cultural attractions, housing a vast collection of artworks collected by the Popes over the centuries. Founded in the 16th century, the museums include works by artists such as Raphael, Caravaggio, and Leonardo da Vinci. One of the most famous sections is the Sistine Chapel, renowned for Michelangelo's frescoes, including the Last Judgment and the Creation of Adam. The Sistine Chapel is where papal conclaves are held. The Vatican Museums are composed of various galleries, including those dedicated to maps, Egyptian art, and classical art. Visiting the Vatican Museums offers a rich experience of history and culture, reflecting the artistic and spiritual heritage of the Catholic Church.
