The Ara Pacis is an emblematic monument of ancient Rome, dedicated to the Goddess of Peace. Inaugurated in 9 BC, it was commissioned by Emperor Augustus to celebrate the peace established in his empire. Built from Carrara marble, the altar is adorned with exquisite reliefs depicting sacred processions, mythological figures, and scenes that highlight the prosperity and serenity of the Augustan reign. Originally located in the Campus Martius, the Ara Pacis is now protected by a modern pavilion designed by architect Richard Meier. This site is not only an artistic masterpiece but also an important historical and cultural testimony offering a fascinating glimpse into imperial Rome. Visiting the Ara Pacis means immersing oneself in the history and art of antiquity.
